Industry Leader Is Announced as a Special Advisor to Leo Cancer Care

Ajit Singh who has previously headed up global healthcare and medical operations of a multinational technology group and now helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses has accepted a significant advisory role

Dr Ajit Singh, who spent 20 years with the tech conglomerate Siemens primarily in senior posts, including as CEO of its radiation oncology business, has been appointed Executive Advisor to the Board of Leo Cancer Care.

He offers not only valuable experience and knowledge, but enthusiasm and passion in helping Leo Cancer Care’s upright positioning system for the delivery of radiation therapy to eventually become a solution-of-choice globally.

He said: “Leo Cancer Care’s upright solution is simply a better medical practice to treat cancer and will generate better clinical outcomes.

“As a solution we could draw a line at that, as a good enough reason, but it’s also more comfortable, convenient and less expensive.”

Already a member of the board, Ajit said of his new position: “With this new responsibility in  my existing board role, I will be available to help and advise the board as well as the CEO.”

Climbing the ladder

Currently, Ajit is a partner for venture capital company Artiman, which has offices in Silicon Valley and Bangalore and focuses on early-stage Technology and Life Science investments.

The first five years of his career at Siemens was as a research scientist in a lab working on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision and Image Analysis.

He then moved to the company’s medical group and quickly climbed the ladder taking on various senior roles. They included Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Radiology and Medical Informatics business and President and CEO of the Oncology Care Systems Group.

He left Siemens in September 2008 to join Biolmagene, a digital pathology startup company and steered the business when the global financial crisis hit literally two weeks later.

Within 18 months it was acquired by Roche and after helping with the integration work following the merger, he joined Artiman in 2011.

Two peas in a pod

Soon after his first meeting with Leo Cancer Care Chief Executive Stephen Towe around 2018, Ajit was appointed to the board taking on the traditional duties as well as playing a specific advisor’s role to the CEO.

He said: “When I first met Stephen it was immediately like ‘two peas in a pod’ and we just took to each other. Having been a CEO immersed in radiation oncology at Siemens, this was something I had lived and breathed, so I said if there is anything I can do to help let me know.”

During this time, he has also accompanied Stephen to meetings with potential customers and investors as well as working with the team to brainstorm on operational issues.

Spreading the knowledge

Stephen said: “Leo Cancer Care is really honored to have Ajit working more closely with the organization. He brings a wealth of experience, to help us with our next phase of growth as an organization. On a personal level, Ajit is a close friend and has always brought a wisdom and calmness that has help both myself as a CEO and the organization grow to this point over the last few years.”

Ajit has a PhD in Computer Science from Columbia University, a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine at Stanford University and is based in Palo Alto, California.
