2023, a year of growth and new partnerships

As we approach the end of 2023 it is important to pause and reflect on a year that has seen Leo Cancer Care grow as a company and hear its name echoed across the globe.

Leo Cancer Care would like to thank its colleagues, business partners, investors, and friends for using their expertise, passion, and voices in helping to make this the year we really make our presence known in the radiation world.

Customer site announced

2022 saw our first customer sites announced and 2023 brought others. We started 2023 with the exciting news that we had partnered with Hampton University Proton Therapy Institution (HUPTI) and will be installing one of our systems in their existing fixed-beam proton therapy treatment rooms. This partnership has been very exciting for us both. HUPTI is passionate about the patient experience and has worked with us to set up a patient advisory board and film videos to help introduce Upright radiotherapy to patients.

Research and bringing patients closer to the system

This year has seen upright radiotherapy move from an idea to a part of research history. Leo Cancer Care has supported the publication of 4 articles on elements of upright radiotherapy that further support the theory that upright is not only feasible but could be the better option and an option that patients want.

We started the year with an international webinar outlining research by Sophie Boisbouvier into upright patient positioning for pelvic radiotherapy and continued throughout the year to share knowledge and findings through international research summits and consortiums.

Leo Cancer Care always aims to put patients at the forefront of its work, we develop this technology to not only treat cancer better but to treat people better in the future. We have been privileged to work closely with 3 separate groups of cancer survivors who have all had previous radiotherapy treatment. They have selflessly shared their own past experiences, their thoughts and opinions on our technology. Their expertise as patients helps us to keep improving our technology for the patients of the future. To them, we are greatly indebted.

Events

The Leo team at JASTRO 2023

It hasn’t just been the Leo Cancer Care name that has reached across the world this year but the system itself. Our roadshow system has been exhibited at many great shows including ESTRO, AAPM, PTCOG, ASTRO and for the first time JASTRO. The buzz that our system generates amongst attendees is infectious and we love to see the upright revolution gain a new follower as people try the system for the first time.

Looking to the future

This year we have collaborated with not only researchers and patients but also students. We have opened our doors to students from different backgrounds in engineering and radiotherapy. We hosted online webinars and attended universities to connect with the current radiotherapy workforce but also the next generation of radiographers aiming to inspire them to look beyond the norm and start to question why can’t we do things differently.

The family grows

Leo Cancer Care as a company has seen its team numbers increase. The depth of knowledge and passion these individuals have brought into the company only makes it stronger and pushes us closer to our goals.

Our extended family has also grown with the announcement of partnerships with Klarity, AVIKO Radiopharmaceuticals, Neutron Therapeutics and Theryq. Each of these partnerships has been a milestone in our journey and has allowed us to explore other areas of radiation therapy such as FLASH radiotherapy and BNCT. We look forward to strengthening these partnerships with our collaborative work in 2024.

Rounding up the year

We round up the year with the great achievement of being presented with ‘Med-Tech Start-Up of the year 2023’. It is an honor to have won this award and it is the perfect way to draw to a close such a fantastic year.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and New Year

After such a busy year we wish each and every one of our colleagues, investors, business and research partners a restful festive season. With your hard work and support we have achieved great things and we are aiming even higher for 2024, see you there!

Please note: The Leo Cancer Care technology is not yet clinically available.
